Welcome to Solid Ground

Solid Ground is a weekly peer-support group in East Ayrshire for adults who feel overwhelmed, isolated or unsure where they fit. Many of our members grew up in childhood homes affected by alcohol or drug misuse, instability or emotional unpredictability. Others carry the long-term effects of trauma, anxiety, people-pleasing, burnout or holding everything together on their own for years.

If you’ve struggled to access busy or clinical services, or you simply need somewhere steady, you’re welcome here.

How our weekly meetings work

Solid Ground runs every Monday evening. We alternate between two types of meetings:
-
Sharing Week: a calm, steady space where you can talk if you want to, or sit quietly and listen.
-
Programme Week: a gentle guided session based on the Solid Ground programme, which is being built to help with grounding, boundaries, emotional steadiness and rebuilding confidence at your own pace.
-

There is never any pressure to speak. You can arrive, settle, listen and take your time.

Each meeting includes a short reading that sets the tone for the night. These readings are added to the website blog the next day.

Who we support

Solid Ground is for adults who live with any of the following:
-
anxiety, overwhelm or long-term stress
-
low confidence, burnout or exhaustion
-
the impact of growing up around alcohol or drugs
-
emotional unpredictability in childhood homes
-
early recovery or trying to rebuild routine
-
difficulty accessing formal or clinical services
-
feeling out of place, overloaded or alone
-

You don’t need a diagnosis or referral.

How we work

Solid Ground is trauma-aware, slow-paced and peer-led. We don’t give advice or try to fix anyone. We offer steadiness, understanding and space to breathe. Everything we do is designed to feel predictable and help you feel calm and safe.

We are run by volunteers:
Linda Murray (Chair), Colette McKinlay (Treasurer), Rebecca Glen (Secretary).

When and where we meet

Mondays, 7.30pm to 9.00pm
Hurlford Community Centre, Cessnock Road, KA1 5DD
Free to attend. No referral needed.

If you grew up carrying too much
If your childhood or life taught you to stay quiet, keep the peace or survive chaos, you don’t have to do that here. Solid Ground gives you a place to pause and find your feet without judgement.
